The Gerdt lab is thrilled to have Dr. Ruibao Li joining us! Ruibao got his PhD in choanoflagellate biology. The group is excited to apply Ruibao’s choanoflagellate expertise in our current projects while Ruibao aims to discover choanoflagellate-bacteria interactions.

Hooray! The lab has received an R35 MIRA grant from the NIH to study interspecies chemical signaling in protozoans!

Congratulations to Ria who was recently appointed a research fellow under the QCB training grant! The Quantitative and Chemical Biology training program is an effort to increase research at the interface of chemistry and biology. Student recruits represent six IU departments across a variety of disciplines. She will study chemical signalling in a unicellular protozoan in the project titled “Elucidating Cell-Cell Signaling Mechanisms in Capsaspora owczarzaki: A Potential Agent against Schistosomiasis”.
